My Story
Meet Angelique Kingsley-Smith
I am a practitioner of Chinese Medicine with a four-year degree obtained from the School of Acupuncture and TCM here in AucklandSince early adulthood I have been keen to help and look after people starting in rest homes and later on in medical wards after completing a diploma in nursing in Hamilton. My own health problems led me to try alternative health forms of healing, and I loved my acupuncture sessions so much, and felt alot better in myself mentally and physically that I was keen to learn this amazing art and science. Now in private practice since November 2002 I have developed a style and clinic I am very proud of.
My Story
A lot of my clients want to know why I left nursing for a strange eastern medicine. Like so many folks in this industry it started with my own health dilemmas and the stubbornness I had not to give up and not to give in! If you want to know my story here it is.
My health problems started after the diagnosis of my first child with an intellectual disability. The grief I felt at the loss of my normal child and his multiple medical problems left me exhausted and frankly I wasn’t looking after myself which made all my symptoms worse.I was tired yet wired. I would go to bed so exhausted but couldn’t fall asleep. My digestion was awful. I was reacting to all sorts of foods and when I cut them out, I lost too much weight, so I’d start eating them again. I was constantly getting thrush and skin infections. My immunity seemed compromised. I constantly had sore throats and would easily catch any virus that was going around. It felt multiple system failure!I went to my G.P to ”fix me”. Yep that’s how I thought back then. I didn’t take any responsibility for my health and after six months she said she had no answers. Looking back, I realize now she simply didn’t have the tools to help me. She tried her best but lacked certain knowledge. Any way I decided that at 24 years of age I was too young to be sickly and went to every alternative health practitioner I could find and read every book I could get my hands on. I spent thousands of dollars. I think everything helped a little, but it was the acupuncture that really benefited me the most. When my son turned five years old my husband and I tried in earnest to have a second child, but I just couldn’t seem to get pregnant. I remember at the time charting my basal body temperatures and they were all over the place and I could not interpret them. (I wish I knew what I know now!)Three decades latter I have a better understanding of what might have gone wrong with me. I suspect that my thyroid had a big part to play and had I supported that important endocrine gland and if I had known how to eat well, I could have avoided those years of hell.On the up side, my problems help me identify with my patients.
I also have personal experience of getting that dreaded period every month, wondering if I’d ever get pregnant again.
I am keen to listen to people’s stories and really hear what is going on for them. I like to treat people on a one to one schedule not multiple beds where you are left with a bell if something goes wrong. I want to make a difference in people’s lives and give that individual care they need. I want to hear what the other practitioners haven’t heard yet. I believe that spending time with my patients is all part of the healing process. If this resonates with you than join me at acupuncture health for the depth and breadth of experience you desire.

Individualized Care Plans
Every session is different and based on TCM theory. This means looking at your tongue and feeling your pulse and asking questions about your heath since your last appointment. This may seem tedious, but it is here we get great results!
An instrument of change
The needle is a beautiful instrument. Sterile and carefully packaged in the right place it can help your body heal itself. However, you will also need to change. Often people don’t know how to effect lifestyle changes for better health. Together we make the difference!
